With a passion for creating engaging experiences, Kara DeFrias most recently served as Director of Experience Design for Vice President Biden on the Cancer Moonshot team in the Obama Administration. Her background is a unique mix of private and public sector experience, including TurboTax and an appointment to the first class of White House Presidential Innovation Fellows. In the latter, she served as entrepreneur in residence reimagining the relationship between the people and the government from a technology perspective.

Kara worked as an Intuit Innovation Catalyst, helping individuals and teams use human centered design to tackle the company’s biggest challenges and dream up new, customer-centric innovations. She was founder and executive producer of TEDxIntuit, and has worked on the Oscars, Super Bowl Halftime Show, and Women's World Cup. Kara's been executive producer or director for over a dozen TEDx shows, and has coached 50+ speakers. She's a past finalist for San Diego Woman of the Year, and was named to to DCFemTech Powerful Women Designers list.

A do-gooder junkie, Kara does pro-bono PR, social media, UX, and digital strategy for the likes of TEDxSanDiego and Team Rubicon; spent 10 days in rural India last year teaching innovation and business skills to micro-entrepreneurs; and guest lectures at UCSD STEM Academy for high school girls.
